NaNoWriMo recap

IMG_4729I want to give a little shout out for an awesome group: National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) Before COVID19 attacked, I had signed up to participate in the April Writing Camp. I set my goal at 30,000 words on my new work in progress, Whispers of Wisdom. I didn’t know if I could meet my goal, since normally I teach full time. I will add that I did meet the November NaNoWriMo 50,000 goal for 2019. Yet, I knew I’d have to adjust to add new words every day in the spring.

IMG_4437Then, I had a lot of help. No more full time teaching for the school year. I treated my writing as a job. I researched in March finding resources in French and English to support my plot. The topic: 1747 France, Chenonceau Château, Enlightenment, Salons, Rousseau, gardening, Madame Dupin, Madame Pompadour, King Louis XV.  I’m still researching even though I have written 30,000 words of the novel.

IMG_4756On April 1, I began the first chapter of Book Three in Gardens in Time: Whispers of Wisdom. I’ve finished six chapters and will keep writing another 60,000 words until The End.

The times are difficult for the nation, the state, the individuals, the family but hopefully you can find the extra time to do something you thought you’d not have time for in the normal day.

For the month of May, I will be sharing about the little things I’ve added to my day during these simpler times.

What is something you’ve had time to do?IMG_4757

Some Stay at Home Lessons

IMG_4146Rumor has it that the world is about to open up, offering a new normal. All I know is that I have learned lots of lessons that I hope I will implement in my life after the pandemic. Each of us has carried different burdens, perhaps bringing some from before the stay at home mandate–health, finances, jobless, depressed, loss. Most of us did not need the addition of a pandemic in our already hectic, over busy lives.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

This morning as I thought about a release from quarantine, I prayed for the health of the nation and more specifically for me to not forget the lessons from the past 40 days. Your list will look different from mine.IMG_4418

“Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” I Peter 5:7

Join me as I decide to take these lessons to heart and make them a part of my life as I’m called to enter the world again.

What are some lessons you will keep close no matter the condition of the world?

“S” on the Shelf

IMG_4494

Recently, I shared what the Gs look like on my personal bookshelf. Gray has wonderful company. Now, let’s look at my S shelf. That’s right! In the same vicinity as Shakespeare and Steinbeck!

I have many copies of Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty. My oldest copy in on my children’s bookshelf. Next is a remarkable author Amber Schamel and Days of Messiah Vol 1. I have all of her works on my shelf.

Then I have two of my favorite authors side by side. Can you imagine filing your books next to William Shakespeare? I have volumes of Shakespeare’s works in a glass bookcase. Here in my library I have his Sonnets. Toni Shiloh gets the honor of residing next to the Bard. Her novel Returning Home is one of many that I own.

Enjoy Amish novels? Beth Shriver offers Annie’s Truth. Next to her novels is Rachel Skatvold and her Ladies of Ardena series, Lady Airell’s Choice. Amish to Medieval. I love the choices.

Mary Helen Specht has a debut novel Migratory Animals that takes the reader to Africa and back. I’ve enjoyed Anne Easter Smith’s historical novels like Queen by Right.  Interested in the Wives of David? Jill Eileen Smith has a great series with Abigail as # 2.

Just writing these titles and seeing these covers makes me want to read them all again.

Do you have some S authors to add?
